Everyday a stone in my pocket.

Finding the joy every day.

4/6/24

Merriment. Collage on cradle board. Katherine McLean

I’ve been playing with movement in my collages: swimmers, dancers. trees. My paint palette — stacks of magazines on desk and floor. The shapes feel other-worldly but familiar. My hand cuts into the paper guided by some logic I cannot define. It’s magic…alchemy. It brings joy, this unplanned meeting of scissor, paper and imagination.

I can remember early mornings as a child sitting in bed, cutting and creating little figures that lived in small walnut shells. They lived in a box under my bed. Pure magic. The joy of creating something precious from the ordinary.

Where will you find your joy today? Look to the ordinary and unexpected; she is there. Please leave a comment and subscribe.

I did one in black and white and one in colour. So very different. The one in black and white sits back and lets the dancers steal the show.
