Everyday a stone in my pocket.

Finding the joy in everyday.

3/21/24

Childhood. Bike rides. Springtime. Mud puddles. Liquorice ice cream.

As a child, I would bicycle down to Lockharts and buy a licorice ice cream cone and a comic. Ten cents each. My mum bought Liquorice All Sorts; this was for munching on in the car or at the beach; one pocket for sea shells and the other for liquorice. This is how I discovered salt and liquorice were a thing. I ate Twister black liquorice at the Saturday Matinee. When I was much older, after a long teaching day, I would have a cuppa of licorice tea. So soothing and calming bringing back all those memories.

Liquorice and cinnamon are two flavours I love; not together, please. They are definitely feel good, childhood tastes and smells that wrap me in comfort and calm.

Today, I bought four cinnamon buns at Cobs. One for a friend, one for my partner, one for myself and one for the freezer (maybe). I like the stickiness of the brown sugar, butter and cinnamon; the inevitable finger licking that comes with unwinding a cinnamon bun. The best part is saved for the last; the knot! Gooey childhood fun. It is definitely more fun when sharing with dear friends, comparing the right way to eat a cinnamon bun, and hearing the shared yummmmmmm and laughter.

Where will you find your joy today? Please leave a comment and share the joy.
